Through surviving materials, unexpected encounters, and the thoughts of “videists,” Adéla Komrzý’sdocumentary VIVA VIDEO, VIDEO VIVA provides a comprehensive account of a time when the enthusiasm of a group of artists could not be spontaneously vented. Curator Martin Mazanec and architect and contemporary visual artist Dominik Gajarský search through the videists’studios, editing rooms, and cellars for dusty VHS tapes and other legacies. A mosaic is being assembled. The film signals a dialogue between the past, present, and future, enhanced by the choice of media on which the film is recorded, whether it is the now almost archaic VHS or the contemporary iPhone. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Ester Geislerová and Adéla Komrzý.

The exhibition What We Should’ve Said but Didn’t explores the possibilities and limits of mutual communication in intimate relationships. In a series of ten videos, Ester Geislerová distinctively and playfully combines acting, therapy, humor, and surprise. The artist carefully selected the participants from among her closest friends, approaching actresses, actors, and even a psychotherapist, and gave them a performative task: to interpret a text written for them by their partners or by Geislerová herself. Viewers bear witness to a powerful confession and can experience the breaking of silence in a ritual of words and intimate monologues that soothe inner pain. The things that go unspoken are finally heard.
