Paula Gogola and Hanna Antonsson’s duo exhibition With Feathers and Flesh presents the work of artists who deal with the technological transformation of organic bodies. Hanna Antonsson’s works can be seen as monuments or meditations on the intertwined fates of human progress and nature, as she deconstructs and animates bird parts and mixes them with fragments of vehicles. A series of kinetic sculptures of fluttering wings, shattered glass, and twisted metal tell the story of chance encounters on Gothenburg’s roads, turning bird sacrifices into works of art that challenge perceptions of life and death. The poetry of the clashes between the natural and the technological (at times even the cyborg) is also alluded to in Paula Gogola’s work. Gogola’s painting practice revolves around transfeminine positions based on the queer experience, which she connects with the modification of the human body as well as various modes of identity construction.
