HOW WAS PAW24

4 days, 100 events, thousands of visitors, and an average of 13,500 steps to explore the art

The opening of Prague Art Week 24 took place on the evening of Thursday, September 5, along with the opening of Josef Bolf’s exhibition Melancholy of Outer Limits at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art. The four-day program ran from Thursday until Sunday, September 8. The DOX Centre for Contemporary Art also hosted the PAW24 Superstudio, where two workshops, EDUcare / Breaking Stereotypes in Art and EDUcare / Point of View, were held, the latter conducted in English. Both workshops were based on the educational programs of the DOX Centre. In the professional program, two main discussions followed: ART, ARCHITECTURE & DEVELOPMENT and ART PATRONS.

Festival attendees had the opportunity to discover a new location, the Savarin Palace, where ten young promising Czech artists showcased their works at the Young Selection exhibition. Visitors could also explore the works of individual artists directly in their studios during the Open Studios event in Černokostelecká.

The program featured several exhibitions from private collections, with one of the more well-known being the collection of Vladimír Železný at Museum Kampa. For the first time ever and only for four days, the Holec Contemporary Art Collection (HCAC) was displayed on Jeruzalémská Street, as well as the unique apartment of art collector Tereza Porybná at Ovenecká 33. The exhibition from the Leon Tsoukernik collection at Magnus Art Gallery and the Odkolekce public art collection are still on view.

During Prague Art Week, 17 new exhibitions were launched, and visitors could enjoy a total of 50 exhibitions, some of which were free on select days along with accompanying events. Altogether, Prague galleries organized 18 guided tours, 6 workshops for both children and adults, 5 discussions, 3 live performances, and 1 concert. If you didn’t manage to catch the entire packed PAW24 program, don’t despair—most of the exhibitions will run until the end of September or even longer in some cases. You can plan your visit according to the event schedule.
