The second edition of the exhibition Young Selection features the youngest talents of the contemporary art scene in the The House

From 26 to 28 September, the visual arts festival Prague Art Week25 will present the second edition of the project Young Selection, which gives space to the youngest generation of artists, who are just starting their professional careers. The exhibition Young Selection 02 will take place in the newly renovated premises of The House. This extraordinary art hub in a modernist villa in Prague 6 has been generously provided to the festival by the foundation of the same name.

“We believe that the second edition will be even stronger and more inspiring than the first. Young Selection has become a platform that opens doors to the world of contemporary art for young artists and inspires audiences to discover new perspectives on our times,” says Lenka Bakešová, director of Prague Art Week.

Young Selection 02 builds on its successful debut in 2024, when it was among the most visited events of the entire festival. Last year’s edition attracted over four thousand visitors in just a few days, and it was met with enthusiastic responses from both the public and experts in the field. This year’s exhibition will feature ten exceptional artists who are not yet represented by galleries and whose work was selected by an expert jury composed of representatives from among the festival’s partners and organizers. Their practices range from painting and drawing to sculpture, textiles, and glass and even installations and experiments with new media.

“This year’s selection of artists reflects the plurality of contemporary artistic thinking, from introspective painting to object-based work to experimental, institutionally sensitive installations,” adds Eva Vele, head curator of the gallery KodlContemporary and member of the jury.

In addition to Young Selection 02, visitors to The House will have the chance to view the studios of the residents who work there. Dominika Vyskočilová, Johana Novotná, Bianka Barniaková, Olga Krykun, Matěj Liška, David Pinkava, Max van Olffen, Jakub Hájek & František Hanousek, Lukáš Hofmann, and Marianna Stránská will open their doors to the public.

The House is an art hub, a creative environment in a modernist villa that serves as a temporary base for eleven curator-selected residents—young and emerging artists whose practices span drawing, painting, sculpture, performance, installation, and new media. Each artist works independently, but unique works emerge in this shared and communal space.

“For me, supporting young art is both a joy and a matter of course. It is platforms like this that provide a space for authenticity, experimentation, and free exploration without young creators having to bow to market expectations,” says jury member Kristýna Špringlová from The House.
