The nineteenth century is honourably represented by the works of Karel Jav\u016frk, Anton\u00edn Waldhauser, Jan Preisler and the so-called Czech Parisians – Alfons Mucha and Lud\u011bk Marold. The so-called Ma\u0159\u00e1k school of landscape design, headed by one of its most important pupils, Franti\u0161ek Kav\u00e1n, is exceptionally well represented. There are also works by other members – Alois Kalvoda, Josef Ullmann, Stanislav Lolk, Bohuslav Dvo\u0159\u00e1k and Ota Buben\u00ed\u010dek. The auction also includes characteristic works by one of the most sought-after Czech landscape painters, V\u00e1clav Radimsk\u00fd, depicting river landscapes and demonstrating the artist’s deep roots in the tradition of French Impressionism.<\/p>\n
The twentieth century is represented by drawings by Franti\u0161ek Kupka, V\u00e1clav \u0160p\u00e1la and graphic works by Vojt\u011bch Preissig. From the turn of 1906-1907 comes an early canvas by Ji\u0159\u00ed Kars entitled Drinkers, a copy of a work by the master of Spanish Baroque painting Diego Vel\u00e1zquez, which Kars studied in detail in Madrid’s Prado during his Spanish sojourn. One of the other works is an extremely rare painting by Otakar Nejedl\u00fd, entitled From Ceylon, representing the artist’s most prized period.<\/p>\n
The generation of Czech Modern artists is also presented with names of great importance both in terms of art history and collecting. A sovereign, melancholic example of the free illustration work of Toyen, a leading representative of the Czech avant-garde, is the drawing entitled Girl’s Face, conceived in an unmistakably brilliant drawing style and in the popular, many times varied motif of a dreamy girl’s face. Equally interesting items are two Erotic drawings by Alois Wachsman and Emil Filla from the important Hradec Kr\u00e1lov\u00e9 collection of Emanuel Hloup\u00fd. Emil Filla’s drawing from 1932 was published in the second edition of the Erotic Review edited by Jind\u0159ich \u0160tyrsk\u00fd, a copy of which is also an integral part of the auction. Filla’s late work is represented by an ink drawing entitled U Radonic with the theme of the Bohemian Central Highlands, associated with the final phase of the artist’s work and his relocation to the chateau in Perec.<\/p>\n
If the names of prominent representatives of Czech modernism and the avant-garde are mentioned here, we must certainly not forget Franti\u0161ek Tich\u00fd, whose work is presented in the graphic work Paganini, which belongs to the artist’s cycle dedicated to the famous violin virtuoso of the Romantic era. A characteristic example of Jan Zrzav\u00fd’s work is the work entitled Boat on the Coast, depicting a harmonious, dreamlike scene rendered with great care and sophistication. The auction will include, among others, a drawing by Josef \u0160\u00edma from the important post-war period, in which the artist arrived at impressive, luminous scenes whose originally landscape character he transformed into an almost abstract representation. The exceptional collection also includes several works by one of our most important photographers, Franti\u0161ek Drtikol.<\/p>\n
The art of the second half of the 20th century is represented by several outstanding personalities of Czech art. We can find here works by Vlastimil Bene\u0161, Vladim\u00edr Boudn\u00edk, Jaroslav Serpan and Karel T\u011b\u0161\u00ednsk\u00fd. The monumental canvas by Jan Kot\u00edk entitled Blackboard, stylistically representing the artist’s important stage of spontaneous expressive gestural painting, is a rare work for collectors. Four drawings also present the work of the Czech painter, sculptor and graphic artist Karel Malich, often mentioned in the context of the art of the so-called “new sensibility”. Sculptures by Olbram Zoubek, Jaroslav Horejc and Ji\u0159\u00ed Brad\u00e1\u010dek will be among the sculptures in the auction. The collection of 20th century art is complemented by three graphic sheets by one of the most prominent Czech representatives of geometric abstraction, Jan Kub\u00ed\u010dek, from the artist’s estate.<\/p>\n
This year, the contemporary art scene does not lag behind the busy and collectible auction selection. For example, you can look forward to a large-format canvas by Ji\u0159\u00ed Georg Dokoupil, which was created by printing coloured soap bubbles and thus represents a radical rethinking of classical painting techniques, which resulted in the artist’s complete freedom of expression.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
