An interview with Jana Bernartov\u00e1 took place on the occasion of the SIGNAL Festival of Digital and Creative Culture, of which she is a part this year. She revealed what her installation <\/span>I See Liquid Crystals Everywhere<\/span><\/i>, focused on exploring digital colors, will look like. She also shared insights on the production process of art installations for Prague’s light festival and explained why SIGNAL’s curator, Pavel Mrkus, is her hero. Since 2016, she has curated the Art Week Liberec festival, which connects contemporary art with significant historical landmarks in the city of Liberec.<\/span><\/p>\n

“There is a great willingness to exhibit digital and multimedia projects; on the other hand, institutions have not learned how to purchase digital works, even though they are part of culture and everyday life. Therefore, the collection-building segment of state institutions does not cover this field, which affects the authenticity of what collections will include. And it’s not just a question of the present\u2014digitally native and new media are largely absent from Czech collections,<\/em>” says Jana Bernartov\u00e1 in response to the question of how digital media compares to classical media in our current times. <\/span>Further responses regarding the integration of technology into creative and artistic processes you can found at the SIGNAL Forum conference from October 11th to 12th.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jana Bernartov\u00e1 is an artist, curator, and the main organizer of the Art Week Liberec festival, as well as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.<\/span><\/p>\n
