Romana also shares the story behind establishing the space in the very heart of Prague: <\/span>\u201cThere are three of us behind The Design \u2014 owner Olga R\u00fchle, M\u00edla Umanec Bul\u00ed\u0159ov\u00e1, who originally came up with the idea to open the space, and myself. In what used to be a pharmacy, we wanted to create a concept store with a different kind of offer than other design shops in Prague \u2014 more focused on handmade, author-driven design. We also opened a gallery, which I curate, and transformed the former lab into a caf\u00e9. Our goal is to encourage people to come, slow down, and experience the spirit of Prague in a different way.\u201d <\/span><\/i>The Design is not just a gallery and art space \u2014 it\u2019s also a unique cultural hub for locals to enjoy a part of Prague\u2019s historic Havelsk\u00e9 Market that is usually reserved for tourists \u2014 complete with specialty coffee, contemporary art, and a curated selection of Czech design.<\/span><\/p>\n

The episode also dives into Romana Drdov\u00e1\u2019s curatorial approach, rooted in authenticity and emotional resonance. You\u2019ll get a behind-the-scenes look at the exhibition Pneuma Alchemy, where Drdov\u00e1 brought together artists Paula Ben\u010da\u0165ov\u00e1 and David Kr\u0148ansk\u00fd in a curated dialogue.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, Romana invites listeners to the opening of the upcoming exhibition <\/span>Pulse of Samsara<\/span><\/i>, which will take place at The Design on July 3. The show brings together textile artist Miroslava Klesalov\u00e1, ceramicist Blanka N\u011bmcov\u00e1, and painter Luk\u00e1\u0161 \u0160mejkal. A special accompanying program will follow in September, as part of Prague Art Week.<\/span><\/p>\n
