The new exhibition by Jakub Hubálek (1983), one of the founders of Platform 15, takes its name from the painting on which it is loosely based. Not only does it allude to his dual position as an artist and gallery owner, but it also touches upon his “ambivalent” visual thinking, which has long oscillated between painting and drawing, color and black-and-white expression, as well as figurative modeling and the space of abstraction. The result of his work is a series of layered paintings based on the principle of painted collage, where these influences collide with each other and create a specific world full of allusions, which, although reflecting fragments of his personal life, is based on the objective parameters of today’s turbulent times. As one of the defining elements of his optical game, duplication—a kind of visual déjà vu—on the one hand makes perception even more uncertain and dynamizes the composition, while on the other hand it alludes to the fact that, regardless of how we all live our own lives, we all “de fuckto” experience one and the same thing.
