The auction of selected works by Michaela Červená, and Anna Martínková will run throughout the exhibition and will culminate on the portal artslimit.com on 22 September 2024.

For the first time since its extensive renovation, the Savarin Palace will open to the public and come alive with art during PAW24. For this purpose, the historical building has been lent to the festival by its main partner, Crestyl, which has been renovating the site since 2021. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire the architecture of the palace plus three exhibitions of contemporary art. There will also be several design pieces from THE DESIGN, inviting visitors to enjoy a nice coffee in the atrium of the palace together with the official distributor of free coffee at PAW24, De’Longhi.

On 5 and 6 September there will be a preview of the exhibition for the press, experts, VIP guests of the festival, and PAW PASS holders. From 7 to 8 September, the exhibition will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. free of charge by booking online here. By reserving entry to the Savarin Palace area, you agree that during your visit, you are entering a construction site at your own risk.

„Following the example of art weeks in other countries, we have decided to organize an exhibition of young artists with the aim of furthering their careers. During the high-profile period of an art week, gal- leries both here and abroad primarily exhibit renowned artists from the middle and older generations or internationally known rising stars of contemporary art. Moreover, as the organizer of a local art show, we have registered significant interest from the younger generation of artists with regard to exhibiting during Prague Art Week, and so we and our partners have decided to make it possible for them to do so by jointly coordinating the exhibition Young Selection. Thanks to the mass attendance of the festival, their work will be seen by countless visitors, and thanks to our partners in particular, their work will be seen by the most prestigious art experts and collectors. We have selected artists who have the potential to be the next “rising stars of contemporary art” and therefore should definitely not be overlooked.

Lenka Bakes, PAW director

„The beginning of an artist’s career, meaning the first few years after graduation, is a crucial period for most artists, during which they define their style and spread awareness of their work among the professional and general public. I see the exhibition Young Selection as a platform to help artists achieve these fundamental goals. I consider the offering of a few selected works from the exhibition in the Artslimit 8 online auction as a kind of extension that will help to present these artists to a wide audience of collectors who can thus discover the latest tendencies of Czech contemporary art.“

Matyáš Kodl, Artslimit

„Contemporary artists in the Czech Republic have a difficult time making a living solely from their artis- tic activities. Because of the country’s war-torn and totalitarian past, contemporary art has disappeared from the homes of ordinary people in the Czech Republic and is now seen as a pastime reserved for a select few. Auction results show that collecting contemporary art is not common in our country, unlike in Western countries, where contemporary art auctions tend to be the most popular and successful. In the Czech Republic, auctions (as well as sales exhibitions in general) focus mainly on renowned artists, which reinforces the belief that contemporary art is expensive and exclusive. This makes the position of emerging artists more difficult. Through the exhibition Young Selection and the subsequent auction of a number of selected works, we would like to give space to these artists. We want to show that surrounding oneself with contemporary art does not have to be the privilege of a handful of individuals but on the contrary can contribute to the general development of culture in the Czech Republic by supporting emerging artists.“

Jakub Kodl, KodlContemporary

„Pro arte is happy to join forces with the Prague Art Week to present the work of art school students and recent graduates in the exhibition Young Selection. These are artists at the beginning of their careers, for whom the PAW exhibition is a great opportunity to engage with the general public, art lovers, and collectors. In the unconventional space of the newly renovated baroque Savarin Palace, it will be possible to see a curated selection of contemporary young art spanning various schools, studios, and techniques—art that uplifts, provokes, broadens horizons, and opens up complex contemporary themes and challenges.“
