The exhibition by Polish artist Cezary Poniatowski transforms MeetFactory into a spectral apartment abandoned by its inhabitants, suspended in time a few minutes past midnight. Here, a microcosm of insects, bacteria, and viruses quietly takes possession of everyday objects: rolled-up carpets resembling staring reptiles or the shrouds of human phantoms become the new post-human protagonists. Poniatowski makes his reliefs and objects from old carpets, black faux leather, and the insulating foam typical of prefabricated concrete apartment blocks from the Eastern Bloc, which he understands as the “skin” of the space—a membrane from which the darkness of the suppressed memory of the recent past forces its way out.
