FENDER BENDER

The exhibition presents a recent painting series by Tomáš Absolon in which, through the dissonance between the subject matter—the still life—and the visual language—abstraction—he stages an interpretive game on the border between a visual rebus and an infographic description of situations. Tomáš Absolon is among the most distinctive figures of contemporary Czech painting. For the exhibition the key motif became that of the “nonfatal crash”—or, translated into the medium of painting, the principle of manually displacing a clearly defined form.
