The exhibition Le Chat Noir takes place in the Parnas restaurant space, which for more than a century has functioned as a site where cultural production, social representation, and nightlife intersect—from the bohemian circles of the First Republic to the film milieu of FAMU to the jazz and underground scenes of the 1970s. In the scope of the exhibition, the space becomes a temporary platform for a dialogue between Julie Béna and Mark Ther, whose practices consistently engage with the performative aspects of identity, the construction of images, and the mechanisms of cultural memory. Both artists employ installation, video, performance, and stylized narrative. Parnas is thus understood not only as a historical interior but as a living organism carrying traces of past gestures, ideologies, and forms of social choreography that enter into direct relation with their work.
