24. 9. 2026, 18:30 – OpeningTo celebrate its 230th anniversary, the Trade Fair Palace will host a series of temporary artistic interventions commemorating the National Gallery’s fifty-year history in the building.
In the Small Hall we will present an object by architect Jan Kaplický, which he created for his exhibition in 1999. A painting by Vojtěch Kovářík, received as a gift in 2024, will also be on display. In the ATLAS space we will be exhibiting an installation by Jan Šerých, recently acquired for the gallery’s collection. In the exhibition 1939–2021: The End of the Black-and-White Era there will be a work by Martin Zetová, offering a new interpretation of the work of his father Miloš. Also on display for the first time will be Magdaléna Cubrová’s painting At the Edge of the Pit (1979), which was the subject of an artistic project of the same name by the Rafani group. The foyer will once again feature a work by Tomáš Vaněk, which was created for an exhibition curated by Jana and Jiří Ševčík in 1999. In the second-floor lounge, visitors will learn about the preparations for the permanent exhibition at the Trade Fair Palace in the 1980s and also about the parallel activities of artists Margita Titlová and Jiří Sozanský in the at that time still fire-da- maged building. Architecture for All, visitors can view a video sequence of unrealized proposals for the reconstruction of the Trade Fair Palace, designed by John Eisler. These will be complemented by Jaromíra Šimoníková’s “Osaka” chair, created for the EXPO 70 exhibition, as well as neon elements corresponding to the logos of companies that operated in the Trade Fair Palace.
