Berlin Art Week acts as a platform for collaboration between the most important institutions of the Berlin art world. Once a year, it offers visitors a rich programme of its approximately 50 programme partners from galleries, exhibition halls, fairs, private collections and other contemporary art projects. The programme includes exhibitions, performances, screenings and much more.
Behind Berlin Art Week is Kulturprojekte Berlin, a non-profit organisation run by the federal state of Berlin, which aims to promote Berlin culture and strengthen the ties between cultural players in the German capital. During its 15-year tradition, Kulturprojekte Berlin has collaborated with countless major museums, theatres and memorials in Berlin.
The current form of Berlin Art Week has evolved from the original art fair “art forum”, which took place between 1996 and 2011. In 2012, Berlin Art Week was founded. Each year, it cooperates with more than 50 institutions and organizations from the art world. Among its programme partners are the KW Institute for Conterporary Art, the Hamburger Bahnhof Museum, Gropius Bau, Berlinische Galerie and many others. Art fairs include Positions Berlin and Gallery Weekend, as well as art projects such as ABA Air Berlin Alexanderplatz or U144 Untergrundmuseum and private collections participating in Berlin Art Week.
