PAW TIP #5: JUNE AUCTION SHOWS PEAK

Have you been thinking about buying an old piece of art or have you always wondered what it would be like to attend a live auction? Check out Prague’s pre-auction exhibitions, where you can buy a painting of a knitting with a cyclist motif by Finnish artist Leena Nio, or a Neo-Renaissance sgabelo chair made of walnut. Prague auction houses are holding exhibitions in the month of June, featuring interesting pieces of various styles of old art and artifacts in the case of the Arthouse Hejtmánek auction house, as well as artworks from European contemporary artists and designers, this time presented by Kodl Conteporary.

As part of its traditional June garden auction, which this year will take place on Thursday, June 8, Arthouse Hejtmánek will present works of fine art, craftsmanship and design from the Middle Ages to the present day.The garden auction in the unique location of the historic house with an indoor enclosed garden inherently includes a selection of unique sculptures of various provenance. Among other things, there is also a new discovery, a large-format oil by Karel Vítězslav Mašek – The Game of Sunspots, which, according to Tomáš Hejtmánek, had been hiding in an uninhabited villa for a long time. Kodl Contemporary presents a selection of works by contemporary Czech and Finnish artists Leena Nio, Lukáš Novák, Miika Nyyssönen, Rony Plesl, Vesa-Pekka Rannikko and Ira Svobodová in Prague and in Helsinky. The international overlap is complemented by a selection concept that moves through different media, from paintings on canvas, to objects made of polyester or plaster, to various glass processes including fused sculpture and mixed media. According to Jakub Kodl, Summer Salon seeks to push the context and boundaries of Czech visual art and place it in a global context.
