What is the most bizarre thing you’ve ever had to deal with as part of installing an exhibition?
NIKOLA DERNER (on behalf of C12 team): When it comes to installing exhibitions, probably nothing — nothing really surprises us anymore. But preparing an edible aspic based on a relief by Pavel Dušek for the opening of his exhibition definitely ranks among those one-of-a-kind memories.
What does it usually look like at your place 20 minutes before an opening?
ND: In the best-case scenario, we’re just having a coffee from the Coffee Room next door and welcoming the first guests. In the worst-case scenario, the fuses blow, and we’re running around trying to figure out which circuit breaker to switch back on.
How do you know when an exhibition has really been a success?
ND: All of our exhibitions have been a success, and we know it because we install them together with the artists and communicate openly until everyone is happy with the result. We believe that this is reflected in the visitors’ experience as well.
Which exhibition will you never forget, and why?
ND: Probably David Krňanský’s exhibition, because it had everything. His amazing works, for which we also published a limited-edition zine, an opening with themed catering, and even merch in the form of baseball caps. Oh, and plastic chairs. The American Dream, basically!
